Hidden files shown in Open/Save dialog box

Hi all,

In Finder hidden files are hidden, but whenever I open an open/save dialog box (eg. Microsoft Outlook-->new email-->attach file OR Firefox window--->webpage-->upload file) the hidden files are shown.

Methods I have tried to resolve this issue:

- terminal commands to show/hide all files in Finder --> REBOOT

- delete com.apple.finder.plist in preferences

System: OS X 10.9.5

Does anyone have any advice to resolve this issue?

Cheers

I have used the command you posted including variations of it (eg. False, No). I have also used the command killall Finder, but this causes the preferences file (com.apple.finder.plist) to revert back to how it was before the command was executed. Reboot has been the only successful method in order for the Terminal command to toggle hidden files on/off. Unfortunately this still has no affect on the hidden files being shown in the open/save dialog box.

It may be worth noting that I am using a German keyboard with Region set as Austria (language set as English). I am not sure if this has an effect on the keyboard commands you mentioned in a previous post.
